Calorie (Cal•o•rie)

1. The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of water one degree centigrade at a pressure of one atmosphere, also called gram calorie.

2. The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water one degree celsius at one atmosphere pressure; 1000 gram calories is equal to 3.968 BTU.
