automatic siphon (au•to•mat•ic si•phon)

1. usually associated with urinal flushing tanks in which a constant supply of water is involved. 2. a tube or conduit in the form of an inverted “U” through which liquid flows over the wall of a tank or reservoir to a lower elevation by atmospheric pressure. Sometimes used for discharge from a septic tank.
